SENIOR ACOUSTICAL CONSULTING ENGINEER

Position

Senior Acoustical Consultant position now open at BKL Consultants Ltd.

Context

We are looking to add a new member to our acoustics team. BKL is involved in a large and diverse range of projects including both architectural acoustics and environmental noise assessment. We consult to commercial, institutional, education, industry, entertainment, arts, transportation, residential, etc. markets. Our architectural related work includes room acoustics, sound isolation, mechanical (HVAC) noise control, mechanical and electrical equipment vibration isolation, outdoor noise propagation, etc. Project delivery methods include traditional delivery (architects, clients), design build, public private partnership (P3), etc. Our environmental noise work typically involves baseline noise monitoring, noise prediction and assessment, preparation of noise impact statements and participation in public meetings and hearings for major transportation and industrial projects.

Duties

Your contribution to projects will span the entire duration of the process including preparation of proposals and fee estimates, conducting measurements, analyzing data, acoustic modelling and preparing reports. You will be expected to fully manage all aspects of your projects, working independently with minimal supervision but with access to support and resources. You will personally carry out the majority of the work on many projects but will take a project management role on others, managing the contribution of junior and intermediate consultants to meet project milestones. As a senior consultant, the majority of your time will be chargeable to project work.

Requirements

Candidates must have excellent analytical skills, a solid understanding of acoustics and very good spoken and written English. Knowledge of current MS Office Suite, drafting and acoustics software applications is expected plus an ability and willingness to learn new tools. Experience with test equipment and methodology for sound and vibration measurements is mandatory.

Candidates should have university level education, preferably in the field of engineering with professional registration. A minimum of 8 years consulting experience in the field of acoustics is required.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary in the $85,000 to $100,000 range depending upon experience with authorized overtime paid at time-and-a-half. Benefits include generous vacation allowance plus 12 holidays; full cost of health and long-term disability insurance; professional association dues and various other subsidies.
